Chalk

Privacy policy

Last updated 2 September 2026

Chalk has no accounts and no sign up, and it asks you for nothing. This page says what stays on your phone, what the two services the app uses can see, and how to get rid of either.

What Chalk itself collects

Nothing that leaves your phone.

Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else, which also means there is nothing for us to send you or delete on request.

Playing across two phones

Moves travel directly between the two devices, either over the local network using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, or as a short audio chirp through the speaker and microphone. There is no server in the middle and no internet connection involved.

Playing over sound needs the microphone, which is why the app asks for it. It listens only while you are pairing or playing that way, it listens only for the chirp, and nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted anywhere.

Advertising

Chalk shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob. To choose and measure the ads it shows, Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, general information about your device, your approximate location as derived from your IP address, and how you interact with the ads. That information is handled by Google under their own privacy policy, and you can see the list of partners and options at Google's advertising page.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom you are asked for consent before any of that happens, and the ads you see are non personalised until you agree.

You can reset or limit the advertising identifier at any time in your phone's own settings, under Privacy and then Tracking or Advertising, and the ads become non personalised.

The purchase that removes ads

Chalk offers one purchase: a single payment that removes the advertising for good. Nothing renews and nothing expires.

The payment is taken by Apple or Google, and we never see your card details or your store account. To know whether you have bought it, on this phone and on the next one, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives a random identifier generated on your device and the receipt information the store issues. It is not linked to your name or your email, because the app does not have either.

Children

Chalk is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Ad content is restricted to a general audience rating.

Changes

If any of this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Anything that would materially change what the services above can see would come with an update to the app itself.
